SPOT ON

no really... i dont think i've ever seen a more accurate critique of video game or sprite flashes on newgrounds. you blew mine out of the water.

i guess it takes a former sprite artist to really nail a sprite parody. i guess i should've expected that from someone who helped with skittles n shitz, another phenomenal parody.

great work, this should be front paged ASAP

most original flash in the past few months

pretty well done. i mean i wouldn't call it a masterpiece or anything like that, mostly due to its length. but it does make you think a little, and thats something very new and different for this site.

the underlying message is fairly straightforward and easy to understand. humans don't learn from their mistakes, they just repeat them endlessly for all of eternity. my guess is the idea for the flash came from staring at that infinity symbol for awhile and realizing the possibility for a looping animation cycle revolving around that design. in any case, the result was refreshingly original.

although i can't really see why people are calling this "deep." it may be a clever and well thought out concept, but it sure as hell isn't deep. i guess newgrounders are just too used to meaningless, mindless flashes... so much so that once a flash with real meaning behind it comes along and they're smart enough to figure it out, even if that meaning is very simple, they'll immediately declare it "deep." i think if it were actually deep, it would provoke some kind of deeper thought and debate rather then just conveying a straightforward message.

thats beside the point though and im probably sounding like an ass... the flash was still good. i'd like to see flashes move more in this direction from now on. every flash should have some sort of underlying message or meaning, and not just mindless madness-style violence or shitty videogame knockoffs. great job and keep it up, tmst

TmsT responds:

Since you mentioned it, actually the infinity symbol was the last thing I did. It was an afterthought, and I admit that yet it was quite unnecessary and a bit too much, almost self indulgent really. Yet people see it and go "OMG INFINITY! DEEP!!!" I understand what you mean. But it's only as deep as the depth to which you think about it, after all. ;)

i dont care what you think

i still say this was a great flash.

worth the 2 years of effort? nah, but great all the same.

i definitely know what its like to get started on a project too ambitious to finish in a reasonable timeline. i've started and given up on too many of those types of things before. obviously, you have too. otherwise we wouldn't have any of the "prelude to joy" flashes.

so i can definitely understand why you think this flash isn't your best work. a lot of times what seemed like a great idea to begin with will lose its luster over time, and eventually you'll look back and go "wow, why did I ever think that was a good idea in the first place?" this probably stems from a combination of you gaining tremendous flash experience over those 2 years and your style evolving in new, more innovative ways. i mean, looking at this and meat grinder side by side, you can hardly tell they're done by the same author. thats really rare for an artist with as distinct a style as yours.

i think that because of the knowledge you gained since you started this, your disappointment in this flash is exaggerated and blinds you from what is actually redeeming here. the well done parts still shine through, even by today's steeper animation standards. while you may find the concept lame and boring, i thought it was actually a very fitting tribute to "fantasia" style orchestral animation of the past.

in the end, though, i guess its better that you didn't put all of your expectations behind this one project. newgrounds has never and most likely will never appreciate flashes of this nature, unless of course they're done by a professional disney animator. and even then, they still say "the story was gay but great grafix! next time more blood and tits!!"

plus, if you had kept the high hopes you started sliver with, an inconsiderate anime faggot like YungJazz leaving a pretentious review might have really dampened your spirits. especially after 2 fucking years of work.

note to YungJazz: just because you got some daily awards for submitting some old shitty anime of yours on incredibly slow portal days doesn't make you superior nor give you the right to demean other artists. in your review you treat zekey like he's a child or something; "oh, the animation was lackluster, but good effort! F for the flash but A for effort! nice try!" you make me sick. obviously you prefer shitty rehashed anime garbage to real artistic expression and creativity. go back to jacking off to hentai you cunt.

p.s. thanks for the mention in the credits too, zeke

ZekeySpaceyLizard responds:

I actually read that whole thing!

goddamnit

I clicked on this expecting to find an actual parody of the movie "The Departed," only with immigration officers. You could have done so much more with a plot like that, and the title would have been far more fitting.

Nice attempt, anyways. Some jokes were funny, and the voice acting was well done. The problem is there's too much "HEY LOOK THIS IS RANDOM SO THAT AUTOMATICALLY MEANS ITS FUNNY" kind of humor in there. There is absolutely no point to making the cop a lobster, and just because its absurd doesn't mean its humorous. You could have done far better with some real satire of Scorsese in here.

Irrious responds:

Sorry it didn't meat your expectations. Next time I won't false advertise the parody. Promise. I think my next cartoon will be called "F00D has a lousy judgment of humor and should wipe my ass for a living".

Starring you... as a fucking lobster. stfu.

yeaahh

this "treasure hunt" thing that tom thought up is such a great idea. ive had this flash in my favorites for months, and now its on the front page. truly fantastic. the flash itself goes beyond normal bounds of outrageousness. i just love it when artists animate the absolute most fucked up thoughts that come into their heads. you can't beat this level of creativity.

if you don't find this funny, LEAVE NEWGROUNDS. this site was made on the principles of being more outrageous and fucked up then anywhere else. thats how it got popular. if you are so easily offended by a harmless cartoon and you'd rather have your unoriginal, uncreative, and uninspired videogame related humor instead, go to deviantart or some shit you pussies.

lmfao

Sorry, didn't like it

Graphics: better then usual. From the other flashes I've seen in this series, it seems like your style usually involves more static drawings with only the mouths moving or something along those lines. This time you included a lot more FBF animation and detail, so I'll give you credit there. At first the houses looked like they were taken from Google image search and you used a photoshop filter to make them fancy, but then you actually started drawing the houses as the flash went along. So the graphics were a step up.

Style: I can't help but feel this series has just a little too much adult swim influence. The content itself is sort of original, but the blatant ripoffs of adult swim characters turned me off. That one guy sounds and looks exactly like Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force... he also serves no purpose to the plot other then to tell Blockhead what an idiot he is. Also, is he in Blockhead's mind? Or is he just imaginary? Or is he God? Why the hell does he show up everywhere? Sorry, I haven't watched much of the series before this. IMO, you could get rid of that character entirely and have a much better series using only segments like the first scene in this flash.

Sound: The voice acting was somewhat annoying, and it really ended up getting on my nerves and ruining jokes that might otherwise be funny. I also found the singing to be so annoying I could barely keep myself from closing the flash. I would suggest toning down the performances a little bit, they just seem too over the top and goofy.

Humor: I dunno, it kind of seemed like you were trying too hard. Maybe its just me, but the humor seemed a little forced. Making something random happen just for the sake of something random happening doesn't cut it for me. I'm sure a lot of other people find it hilarious when Blockhead uses his tongue to grab on to shit, but I don't quite get what's so appealing about that sort of thing. It also goes back to the adult swim influences, and it seems to me you're trying pretty hard to match that style of randomness. Of course, I hate a lot of adult swim shows that try to do the same thing you're doing here too. Whatever.

Overall: Just not my cup of tea. For me, the good graphics weren't enough to compensate for the annoying voices, unoriginal style, and forced humor. Good luck in the Halloween contest though.

The-Swain responds:

When I used to watch ATHF, I would quote Carl and have peopel tell me what a bad impersonation I do. Then I give a husky (not whiny) NY (not NJ) accent to an overweight gent, and then suddenly the two are EXACTLY alike. Haha, the world's not fair, is it? :D

Note: (I'll point out something I've said before because you claim not to have seen many of my other submissions) I have dated proof that my characters came before Carl (or even Adult Swim in its entirety, in fact), so maybe it is not I who has been influenced, but the other way around? Eh? Eh?? I even had to "un-Carl" the Conscience by removing his original wifebeater and sandals concept. Me: 0, World: 2

Sweet mother of Christ

This is the most flawless creation I have ever witnessed. It is like a fine, sweet nectar. Sheer radiance is the word I would say best describes this masterpiece. The stunning and magnificent visual splendor is matched only by the vibrant and lively orchestral soundtrack. I think beauty this deep and meaningful doesn't deserve to be on the lowly, garbage-ridden internet... in fact, it shouldn't even exist altogether. It's just that good. A flash this phenomenal belongs in one place and one place only: heaven.
The Star Syndicate's triumph over the adversity of the oppressive, corrupt Newgrounds system is finally complete! We have proven who the true supreme artists are on this site. Our power is unmatched, our will unshakable. No matter how many of us the so-called "authority" casts aside, no matter how many hard earned, honestly achieved accounts are deleted by a certain belligerent dictator who rules this site according to a flawed set of fascist rules and restrictions, we will always rise from the ashes. THE STAR SYNDICATE REIGNS SUPREME OVER TYRANNY. ALLAH AKBAR.
